Turmeric Latte
I have been looking for some different things to drink and turned to Pinterest for inspiration. This coincided with a visit to Blend coffee shop with my work colleagues. My friend ordered a Turmeric Latte – it was thick creamy and delicious.

Turmeric lattes are a health food/drink in my opinion. They are an acquired taste – you will like them if you like Chai tea/latte and things like Pumpkin Spice.
Why is Turmeric Latte a health drink?
Where do I start…..
Antioxidant Properties
A lot of the spices in the Turmeric Latte have antioxidant properties, so they help to prevent cell damage. They also lower the risk of infection and disease.
Anti Inflammatory
Most importantly for me, Turmeric, Ginger, and Cinnamon are all known to be good as an anti-inflammatory.
I suffer from Arthritis in my hips. In fact, as soon as I start a new exercise program I feel it in my joints, so the timing of this recipe is perfect. The start of the cold damp weather and my new Beachbody program mean that my joints are due a flare-up!
Good for the Brain and Memory
Anything to help my ageing brain has to be a bonus. I’m not sure if its a hormone (perimenopause thing) but my memory is definitely getting worse. Turmeric (and the other spices) are supposed to be good for the memory – let’s hope this bit is true!
Good for the digestive system
Last but definitely not least the Ginger and Turmeric in the Turmeric Latte are both good for the digestive system. If you suffer from any problems inc things like Ulcers this is a natural remedy to help.
I am definitely not a scientist but this did come up as having a strong scientific backing; possibly due to the anti-inflammatory properties.
If you want to read more on this do some searches for yourself to see what you think. As long as you are not allergic to any of the ingredients its got to be worth a try?
Other info for this Turmeric Latte Recipe
I actually tried two versions of this recipe and I have listed the one I liked the best – I will mention the differences after and why I preferred the one I did.

Turmeric Latte (Golden Milk)
This is a quick and Easy Recipe for making Turmeric Latte – it can be made vegetarian and Vegan by using plant-based alternatives for the Milk.
Ingredients
- 2 Cups Milk I used reduced fat canned Coconut milk
- 1/2 tsp Vanilla extract
- 1 tsp Turmeric
- 1/2 tsp Ginger
- 1/2 tsp Nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp Cinnamon Plus extra for the top
- 1 Dsp Honey or Syrup I used 1 desertspoon rather than a tablespoon – this can be changed to suit your taste
- 1 Sprinkling Black Pepper
Instructions
-
Put all of the ingredients in a saucepan and heat – make sure you use a pan that does not stain easily as Turmeric stains everything!

-
Once hot whisk with a whisk or blend with a stick blender to get it nice and frothy

-
Serve in a mug with a bit of Cinnamon on the top

Recipe Notes
The calories noted are dependent on the type of coconut milk and how much honey is used.
Play around with the spices until you find the combination you like – I added nutmeg as I like it but I don’t think its in the traditional one.
The original one I made was using the unsweetened Alpro Coconut milk as shown in the picture. The one I actually enjoyed and the one I based the calories on was using tinned/canned reduced-fat coconut milk. I found it thick and creamier.
Here is the blender ** I used, I also have a Nutri Ninja ** so have linked both.
In contrast to this thick warm drink, I also want to try an iced version as I think it would be nice. For that one I would be tempted to use the Alpro as it would make a refreshing longer iced drink and there is no point in going for a thick consistency when you are going to add ice to it!
Have you tried any new “Autumn” drinks or Turmeric Latte? If you try this recipe, let me know what you think!
