Happy New Year 2020!

Hello, Happy New Year for 2020 to you all!!

I cannot believe how fast December went. Scrap that I cannot believe how long the last decade went!

Happy New Year on a festive background

I decided to have a bit of time away from the blog (last post here if you haven’t already read it) and haven’t posted a lot on social media – work was hectic at the end of the year and with Christmas Prep and birthdays to sort it all got a bit much. Much as I would like to say I have had a lovely break, I did miss posting on here and instead I kind of just end up resenting the things that get in the way. This year I just I wasn’t feeling the season at all – I wasn’t totally bah humbug, but I just didn’t feel festive or Christmassy at all.

Anyway, I have a few posts lined up and look forward to getting back into it this year.

Christmas 2019

Pressies

This year was always going to be a tight one, budget-wise as it was Tom’s 18th Birthday too. Eddie and I agreed there would be no pressies for each other and then he went ahead and ordered something for me (which I was cross about) so I had to get him something too. He got me a camera, not a fancy one, just a cheap starter one (for my blogging and possibly in the future vlogging exploits) so I bought him an Xbox game – Star Wars Fallen Order – it must be good as he has hardly put it down!

The kids mainly wanted money, so we got them some clothes, a card game each and some smellies.

Illness and injuries

Seems to be a recurring theme for our Christmas and New Years and this year did not let me down. Chloe had a nasty virus all through Christmas and whilst she soldiered on in her Christmas job at Tesco, she did have to take two days off. One night she was up all night coughing and did not sleep and the other she was throwing up (I think it was a mix of the gunk on her chest and the medicine and not much food!)

Then to top it off Eddie did his back in again! He was laid up for around 5 days and this time was completely immobile (could still move his hands for the Xbox though 😉)

Dinner

This year we had my sister – Teresa and her husband Kevin over for dinner with all of us. I did the following mammoth list of food

  • Leek and Potato soup – I made it in the instant pot this year and it was brilliant!!
  • Turkey
  • Duck
  • Gammon (roasted with honey and mustard)
  • Roast Potatoes
  • New Potatoes
  • Dauphinoise potatoes
  • Brussels and chestnuts
  • Carrots
  • Leeks cooked in Cream and white wine
  • Cauliflower Cheese
  • Tender stem Broccoli
  • Green Beans
  • Asparagus
  • Pigs in blankets
  • Red cabbage (cooked with red wine vinegar, brown sugar and apples)

Can you tell it’s my favourite meal of the year?!?! I always cook enough so that there are leftovers to have another the following day! and some times the day after that!!

Christmas Dinner
Chloe’s Christmas Dinner as I was too busy sorting everything to take one! Looks messy but it tasted lovely!

New Year

Although we got invited out to my sisters for New Year’s Eve we decided to stay at home and see it in as just the five of us (but then Tom went out to his girlfriends). It’s a good job as this is when Eddie and Chloe were both laid up and also it was a bad year for fireworks and little Luna was petrified.

New years eve was Chloes 20th Birthday – it really doesn’t seem 5 mins since I was in labour and it was the Millennium New Years Eve. She is an amazing illustrator and I couldn’t be more proud of her. I will drop a link to her Etsy shop here for you to check out.

Think that’s all for now, I will be doing a review of 2019 and some sort of goal setting post soon – I know loads of people had their posts up on 31 December and 1 January, but I wanted to be present with stuff at home (and let’s face it, who is bothered about my goals etc on New Year’s Eve and New Years Day?

Happy New Year 2020!!
