Weekly update 12 – Pumpkins and fashion!
Well hello – I thought it was high time I did another Weekly Update post so welcome to Weekly update 12!! The one with the pumpkins and fashion – not necessarily words you expect to find in the same sentence!!
Its been a mad few weeks with Uni Visits to Loughborough and Birmingham for child No 2. And life has just been really really busy, plus there have been some tough family times too! My last weekly update is here.
Matlock Illuminations
We have been before but not for a few years. This time just me, Ewan, Chloe and her boyfriend went along. It was busy but good fun. I think it cost around £7 for an adult to get in. (Is it worth the entry fee? mmm not sure). It is still a good night out though. We ended our night with a delicious hot chocolate at one of the little independent coffee shops.
Apologies for the dark photos – but it was…well….dark!!

Charity Fashionshow
This week Chloe and I attended a charity fashion show. If you have them near you and have never been to one it’s well worth the trip. Basically all of the main shops order large orders from the manufacturers – say they order 100,000 pairs of trousers. The manufacturer always makes more and it’s these are sold to the charity fashion show companies. They cut the labels out so there is no chance you could return the items to a store for a refund! The items sell a lot cheaper than in-store and usually, there is a charity who receives a percentage of the sales. They also get the entrance ticket fee.
I was rubbish and didn’t get any photos on the night – it just didn’t feel right. It was at The Ear Foundation and there were lots of benefactors there so it just didn’t seem right photographing it. I got a few items though that I am happy with. Some Blue New Look work trousers, a pair of wet-look jeggings (which I never would have looked twice at but I love them for going out in!!) and a lovely cream V Neck Jumper with Sparkly sequins on – perfect for the upcoming going out season.
Picking Pumpkins
I have wanted to go picking Pumpkins for years, normally I cannot ever fit the visit in. So on Saturday afternoon, I went with Chloe and Ewan. It was brilliant and would be even better if you had small children. There are hundreds upon hundreds of all different types of pumpkins. But then there is a trail for the kids to follow. And also hay bails to climb on, nice food and drink to buy. The hog roast had all gone as we got there with about an hour or two to closing, sounds delicious!
I am not sure of the types of pumpkins we bought but they are so cute and look gorgeous in my garden. I am hoping that we can bake/cook with them too!!

Vintage Kilo Sale
We also went to a Vintage Kilo Sale in Nottingham. If you haven’t been to one, its basically like a big second-hand clothing market. You pick out what you want and it’s weighed and paid for by the Kilo.
The last one I went to was held at Nottingham Trent University Student Union. It was good as the room was huge. This one was a different venue and was not as good. We had to queue for 45 minutes to get in. Inside it was horribly rammed. It was not a big enough room for the number of racks and people.
For some reason, they thought it would be a good idea to put the checkouts at the back of the room. The queues to pay tailed all around the room; right where the racks were so you struggled (if you were short like me) to be able to reach and see anything other than the racks in the middle. They were also slow to refill the racks. Chloe picked up a few shirts that were good. Unfortunately, the queue was so long at this point we just decided it wasn’t worth it.
A lot of students came out with bags full – so some bargains were had, but sadly not for us this time
This pic of the middle doesn’t really depict how busy it was, but this was across the middle. You can see the people over the side – that was the queue to pay!
It hasn’t put me off going to another, but I am going to get the early bird VIP ticket for the first hour as hopefully, it wouldn’t be as busy!
What I am watching, reading, listening too.
I have finally finished Season 2 of Good Girls – meh was ok. For me, it was not as good as season 1.
A week or so ago I started on American Horror Story and I am on Season 3 which is a coven one – not enjoying it as much as the previous 2 but my kids have assured me that it’s worth sticking with it.
I have also started a new Korean Drama which I am enjoying called When the Camilia Blooms
I finally finished the book I was reading The Story of Our Life by Shari Low enjoyed this one. Its a love story with twists, but not the usual type of twist. Didn’t make me cry but I did enjoy the read and it was easy to put down leave it a few days and go back to it. And at the moment this is exactly what I need.
I read my books via the Kindle app on my Ipad Mini. The only books I get are ones included for free on Prime reading. Have a look at a free trial for Amazon Prime here ** it’s also perfect for free delivery for the Christmas gifts (and if you time it right black Friday)
Although I am late to the party on this one! I have started to listen to a new podcast called Dear Joan and Jericha. This is not for everyone as its a filthy but very funny – there is a perfect write up on it that basically tells you all you need to know.
This last few weeks I have been making more soup so expect another recipe or two this week. I have also bought some canned pumpkin puree as I have seen a few “treat” recipes involving Pumpkins I want to try to make.
Until next time…..
