My week – general chit-chat update – 29 September 18
I am in the middle of doing a few blog posts. All are unfinished……I have been in the middle of a really busy/stressful time at work, especially this week. So that has had to be the focus.
Just shows that I am still struggling to get the work-life balance I wrote about previously! So I am afraid I am doing just another chatty post…..hope you don’t mind!
A proper goals update post will happen soon, but this week in between working I have been mostly food prepping and planning!!
Saturday
Last weekend I spent a lot of time looking on YouTube and Pinterest for inspiration for Weight watchers meal plans and recipes. I even went so far as to buy some Bento boxes from Amazon. The ones I ordered are brilliant – they are leak proof, microwaveable (which is perfect for work) and dishwasher proof. I have had a broken lid already, but that’s just because a clean empty box was left in a bag under the stairs so had things piled on top etc. Anyway if you want to see which ones I have they are * here
Above are the veggies I prepared. Then next to it is one of the boxes. Doesn’t look too fancy but it tasted great, I did enough for lunch for when I was in the office. I did Chilli Beef (made up the recipe using less than 5% fat beef, onions, mushrooms and a variety of herbs and spices!), saute peppers with green beans and cauliflower rice. This was only 3 smart points for the whole thing so made having a snack in the evening a lot easier!!
I had to have a good week diet-wise. Two back to back curry nights at our local curry house resulted in a weight gain of 2.5 lbs!
Monday
Monday night we had a “graduation” ceremony for Tom, who complete the NCS program over the summer holidays. NCS is the National Citizen Service; a program aimed at school leavers to give them various life skills whilst also doing something for the community. It is a great initiative, but Toms team and all his wave were lacking in execution. It really did not live up to expectations, guidance from team leaders was poor, as was the activities. Notts County football club was the venue, and although the room decor was good it was a little bit cringe-worthy, to say the least.
The lady hosting tried her best, but a lot of the young adults obviously thought the same as Tom. When asked if they wanted to be a leader next year they either replied “no” or just seemed uninterested – embarrassing all round. There were perhaps two teams who actually made a difference to the community. That was probably around 30 out of the 180 there on the night!

Wednesday
Wednesday was the usual work from home day for me. I did log off to go to the Ilkeston Joggers Couch 2 5k program with Ewan. We attempted the program earlier in the year but missed the last couple of sessions. Because of the summer hols never went back, and never actually graduated. We went back last week to start again (at week 2) so this week was Week 3. Ewan did very well. I ended up walking a lot of it, as one of the newer members of the group was struggling to walk never mind jog so I stayed with him. In the end, I did a quick short out and back on my own as I felt as though I hadn’t done anything!

But then I got home and logged back on to work until around 10.30 pm
Thursday/Friday
Thursday night was the first night all week I didn’t log on to work at home in the evening and work until late. I got home and all of a sudden came down with a really bad head cold. My eyes puffed up and ran, I was constantly sneezing and my nose was like a tap, so I went to bed early – which is not like me.
I couldn’t miss work on Friday, as it was the day I had to make a lot of grant payments to recipients for our grant quarter end. In the end, despite wanting to leave early, I did a full day in the office. I was totally fed up and felt rubbish!
We had a meal booked out in the evening, to celebrate Chloe starting Uni. This was supposed to be last week, so I really didn’t want to cancel it again. We went to a Chinese at Ambergate which was lovely.
Unusually, we all went (even Tom!) and Chloe’s boyfriend who had never tried Chinese before. It was a great evening (a bit expensive!) but as we all went we had to take both cars and driving back I felt a little like a zombie so was glad to get home and go to bed!!
No photos from that night out either – I am a rubbish blogger, but to be honest
And that’s my week. No weekly weigh in as I just felt too ill to get myself up early this morning. Going to sit in my chair surrounded by tissues and hot honey & lemon. I might try and finish another post and perhaps get back onto my crochet!
