Family Weekend in Wales

A couple of weekends ago; actually probably a month ago (where did that time go!! read here) we headed off to Wales for a weekend break.  This was one of the Pet-friendly short UK breaks I had booked a few weeks ago (see the previous post here )

I found this cottage via one of the Facebook pages I joined (either Last minute Pet-friendly holidays, or Dog-friendly holiday accommodation) and it was soo cute.

Myself, Eddie, Chloe, Ewan and Luna went.  We headed off early on the Friday and had a nice journey in through the bottom of Snowdonia.

All around the bottom of Snowdonia, over to where the cottage was in Landysul there were Red Kites flying over head.  They looked amazing, but I am just not skilled enough as a photographer to get a snap of one!!

We arrived at our cottage and instantly fell in love with it.  The couple that owns the cottage were lovely people.  They left us a little welcome basket containing filter coffee, tea, caramel waffles (that you put on top of a cup of coffee) and a bottle of milk.  They even left us 4 freshly laid eggs.

We instantly started planning our retirement to Wales, and whether we could own holiday cottages like that lol.

The Cottage was just so cute – it had wifi and a lovely layout.  The back door was off the master bedroom upstairs and led to a garden that was higher than the cottage.  The only fault we had was that as it was warm when we visited, the heating was on!  You could switch some of the radiators off but not the one in the lounge.  It was soooo hot!

Places we visited

New Quay – Wales

We went to the nearest “seaside” location New Quay (not the Cornish one!) quite a few times.  It was small but lovely and had everything you needed – a couple of Fish and Chip shops, a Gelato/Ice cream shop, a gift shop and a convenience store.  There was also a couple of pubs but they looked fairly full so we didn’t try them.

There was this grassy section with loads of benches where people all sat looking out to see whilst eating chips or ice creams – it was very odd to sit all in the same direction looking out to see, but also pretty cool at the same time!

Aberyswyth

We also visited Aberyswyth which is predominately a University town, but has a lovely sea-front.  Some nice shops including some gift shops – one had a pick a mix by Wawel which was a shop we went to in Poland a couple of years ago (so we were excited about that!)

Obviously, we had Luna with us and I had read about a dog-friendly cafe on Trip Advisor.  It was actually fairly disappointing as it was so small, a couple of locals had hogged two big tables with just them on each one (one only had a glass of water too).  To be honest it was all for the best as we stumbled upon a little place called TATWS (which despite us misreading it, actually means potato)

They were pet-friendly and let us take Luna in with us, which was good as you can see from the photo’s above it was a bit of a mixed day.

Honestly, those Chilli cheese fries were one of the best things I have ever had, and I have eaten out a fair few times!  They weren’t cheap, but the portions were huge.  We ordered one each, Chloe took a mixture of hers and Eddies left-overs home – and they were good heated up too!

The decor inside was cute and they did a nice coffee too, so highly recommended if you are in the area!

What else did we do

Chloe and I spent a lot of time when at the cottage on our bullet journals – Chloe bought us both a new one from Tiger.  They have dot grid bullet journals for £5.00 which is such a bargain.  I will do a separate post on it soon.  We also bought some face masks.

The face masks were a little disappointing as they didn’t seem to suit either of our skin types;  we both felt it stinging and made our skin a little pink.

The peel-off base coat by Barry M seems ok – the first time I used it, it wouldn’t peel off. Next time I used it I put it on thicker and it seemed to peel off better.

Carmarthen

We also visited Carmarthen – no photos from there.  I actually found Carmarthen a little disappointing.  There were a few shops – lucky for us one of them was Cafe Nero’s which we all love.  We went to Pizza Express and sat outside but the service was shocking.  Lots of waitresses doing very little and all had attitude.

The most exciting thing was that the Tour of Britain started the Wales section in Carmarthen, on the day we visited.  So we got to see that and that’s always very exciting.

Overall it was a lovely mini break.  The accommodation was fantastic and the area beautiful.  I think we did see a majority of what was in the area, so I am not sure we will go back; unless we decide that we just want a quiet break with Luna in Wales with no big outings.
