Summer evening at the street food market

It’s been quite a hectic for both me and Mum. Work stress combined with my added job hunt stress. It was definitely a godsend when Mum pulled out a flyer for a local street food market. The promise of two for one cocktails was also a deciding factor (we didn’t even end up getting them in the end though as we drove)

By the time we arrived it was already heaving; I guess a lot of this was thanks to the weather, the added bonus of cheap booze, tasty food and the perfect timing for the after work rush.

Korean Street Food at its best!!

We read on the flyer that amongst the food vendors, there was a Korean food van called Love Kimchi. My mum and I are well acquainted with Korean food and our excitement was real! I think our tummies had led the way and we found ourselves quickly at the front of the queue.

To our surprise, the fried chicken was boneless and the concern about how we were going to manage eating it while standing quickly faded to the back of our minds. We scoffed it. Faster than we are willing to admit.

We checked out a few of the little art studios that were open for people to browse and I picked myself a print from The Shop.

This beautiful risograph print is made by a local Nottingham artist who goes by the Instagram handle @the_dunce , I fell in love with the colour and I knew I just had to cop it! To add a cheeky bonus, 10% of the print sales go to a local animal rescue AND the packaging is recyclable/ compostable! It doesn’t get better than that does it!

Still feeling a little peckish and wanting to explore more food trucks, we were torn between the Vietnamese food, Melt Works (they specialised in melting CHEESE!) and this beautifully smelling brownie van.

Blondie Brownies

Knowing full well the rest of our family would be watching from our insta stories, we decided the brownies would not only taste amazing but also make everyone at home jealous.

Blondie Brownie Bakes is a local artisan bakery which specialises in brownies and blondies. We can vouch for how amazingly gooey and simply delicious these creations are. But honestly, can anyone complain about a warm blondie, a huge scoop of ice cream, fresh fruit and crushed meringue? No, I don’t think so either.

To top off our evening and enjoy the rest of mother-daughter bonding we ended up in Blend coffee shop. I had a beautiful coconut milk latte and mum had a tasty Americano with coconut milk on the side. Hands down this was the creamiest latte I think I’ve ever had, and I’ve drank a lot of coffee.

The hour or two that we spent out exploring was well earned and lifted our spirits after a rough week.

It was very fun and relaxing to spend time with mum without constant interruptions like at home. I almost can’t believe how amazing the atmosphere was and how incredible the sense of community felt. I 100% recommend visiting a street food market if you have one in your local area; support your local artists, local businesses and get some cheeky bevvies down you, and if none of that tickles your pickle- go for the atmosphere!
