Beauty Products for the Over 40’s – Part one
So this week I thought I would try some new beauty products. I am concentrating on a couple of things I have purchased today from a drugstore – Superdrug. The items were relatively cheap and had a great offer on them. If you haven’t seen it, my previous beauty post is here take a look!
Now I have watched a lot of beauty tutorials on YouTube – I love watching them, but a lot are aimed at younger people. I love watching Zoella and Sophdoesnails. I wanted to find out if age makes a difference on beauty product selection when you get over the age of 40.
Lip Colour
For a long time I have concentrated on Pink lipsticks – I like the fact they instantly brighten the face. Occasionally in the summer I go for a shimmery nude one as I think they look good with a bit of a tan. Today I decided to try this one by Revolution with a view to it being an everyday lipstick.

The Lip Kit cost £6.00 which I didn’t think was too bad for a lip liner and a liquid lipstick.
I do not normally buy liquid lipstick. A lot of the matte lipsticks I have tried in the past, have been traditional lipsticks and have been a little drying on the lip.
The Liner looks fairly natural and is a perfect match for the lipstick. The lipstick itself is a lovely shade. It went on lovely and is not sticky or too dry.
Overall, I am really happy with this kit. I think it would be a really good every day shade. I will update at some point with how good it lasts through the day.
Eye Makeup
Again I went with Revolution for my Eye Shadow. The pallet of theirs I got for Christmas has lovely colours, but they are not highly pigmented, so it takes a while to build the colour. But when I saw this pallet I couldn’t resist as it looked lovely.

This Pallet was £6.00 also and there was an offer on that if you spent more than £12 on their products you also got another pallet free, with 3 different ones to collect.
I like the fact the colours have names and I like the range of colours. They are similar to what I have seem some Vloggers use, but are they too young for someone of my age?
Some articles I have read suggest that you should avoid shimmery shades when you are over 40; but since I am never one to listen to anyone, I have tried them anyway!
These Eyeshadows are so different to the ones I got at Christmas! The shadows are highly pigmented and blend beautifully. I went for “Clever Words”, with “I am beaten” over the middle of the lid. I also then used “Panic on the Street” on the inside of the lids, just to add a bit of highlight. Overall, I am very pleased with how they look. I think there is potential for a lot of different day time and evening looks with just this pallet.
Verdict
I do think that perhaps the less shimmery shades would not settle into the creases as much, or at least you wouldn’t notice it, but overall I think its ok. Again, I will have to do an update on how well it lasts. I must comment at this point that all I had on prior to doing the eye shadow was brow powder and a little black eye liner. I have no bottom lashes to speak of, so always wear eye liner, and I added some mascara after doing the eye shadow.

I haven’t tried this one yet, and to be honest as its so metallic and shimmery I may just give it to my daughter who will definitely be able to carry it off better than I can!! But it was free so I can’t moan about that!
Overall
I think it is possible to carry off one of the drugstore cheaper brands as a more *ahem* mature lady. I do think that you should choose the shades wisely (and make sure I blend them in well).
With lipstick I think age doesn’t make any difference. I don’t have lots of wrinkles around my lips, but think that the soft liner would stop any lipstick bleed. In my opinion, dark lipstick isn’t so good on an older person, I think its aging. I prefer to think back to wearing them in my Goth phase when I was a teenager in the 80’s!
Hopefully. at some point I will be confident enough to do a Vlog (as I do think that there are not enough people of my age doing such things). But at the moment I am very conscious of how I look. I am not happy with my weight as my diet has not been good recently. This week I am going to work on that and I may even write a blog post on it later in the week.
