World Book Day & review of my 2019 reading challenge

As a parent there is nothing worse than a child uttering the words “it’s world book day tomorrow”.

Then the pure panic sets in for what outfit to wear. Ewan is almost 15 and I thought the World Book Day days were firmly behind us….apparently not.

So I spent some time googling teenage book character; teenage male book characters; easy male book character costumes. In the end, we settled on Archie from Archie comics (the Riverdale character) as it’s effectively a denim jacket, hoodie, white T-shirt and jeans!! No expense spent!!

Reading challenge 2019 Review

Anyway, it did remind me that I never looked back on my reading challenge of 2019. So how did I get on?

Out of the 5 books I listed I read:-

The Girl in the Corner – enjoyed this one, it wasn’t brilliant but was happy with the ending. Worth a read.

Things We Never Said – I cannot believe I didn’t read this earlier. A complete emotional rollercoaster!

and The Cornershop in Cockleberry Bay – nice little story – good for a holiday read. Predictable but worth a read. I think all of the books are available on Prime reading still so they didn’t cost a penny as I already had Amazon Prime

Enjoyed all of them. I also read….

Christmas in Cupid Falls – I enjoyed this one, was easy to read but nothing that stands out in my mind. I finished this over a year ag and do not remember that much of the story except that it was ok.

The Afterlife of Walter Agustus – a different style of book for me, very very unusual and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I had to finish reading this one and it’s good if you are looking to move away from the usual ‘chick-lit’

The Story of Us – another not so straight forward story. I thought it was going to be the typical story….love at first sight, then one of them cheated on the other. Except this story was very very different and was very emotional in places.

A Village Affair – this was a good holiday read. Predictable enough but good never the less.

So in total I did read 7 books!! I haven’t done full reviews here – I did some during the year on my weekly updates, but don’t want to appear to be trying to be a “book blogger” as I am no where near clever enough for that! I just like to know the blurb and if people generally think its ok and then I give it a go!!

Have you read any good books over the last year – let me know in the comments of any recommendations!!

Happy reading!

Julie
